about me
Hi! I'm Owen. I finished my BS in computer science at Indiana University this past spring and I'm now doing my MS through IU's 4+1 program, concentrating in artificial intelligence with a minor in data science and HCI. I care about software engineering, web development, and machine learning, and more and more about how AI actually works and whether we can explain it. I am also very passionate about HCI and sustainability and I like building things that feel good for the person using them.
I've spent my last 3 summers as a software engineering intern at Charles Schwab in Austin, Sallie Mae in Indianapolis, and Shopwave, a commerce startup in London. At IU I'm an undergraduate instructor for Intro to AI, and I have done research with Dr. Yuerong Hu on how AI is reshaping online book culture, which turned into a poster at DH2026 in Daejeon, South Korea.
I was also president of Google Developer Student Clubs at IU and helped co-found the Luddy Hackathon, which has grown to 300+ hackers.
When I'm not coding I'm cooking, playing guitar, hiking, or digging for new music. My other acedemic interests include anthropology, cognitive science, environemntal science and music. I also earned a certificate in rock music history from IU's Jacobs School of Music.
